Jun-ichi Kadokawa received his Ph.D. in 1992. He then joined Yamagata University as a Research Associate. From 1996 to 1997, he worked as a visiting scientist at the Max-Planck-Institute for Polymer Research in Germany. In 1999, he became an Associate Professor at Yamagata University and moved to Tohoku University in 2002. He was appointed as a Professor of Kagoshima University in 2004. His research interests focus on polysaccharide materials. He received the Award for Encouragement of Research in Polymer Science (1997) and the Cellulose Society of Japan Award (2009). He has published more than 200 papers in academic journals.

He is the co-author of three books in the area of polymers and petroleum engineering: (i) Biofiber reinforcement in composite materials (ii) Petroleum Economics and Engineering (iii) Hybrid Polymer Composite Materials: Processing. Dr Junwang Tang is the Director of UCL Materials Hub, Professor of Chemistry and Materials Engineering in the Department of Chemical Engineering, and a Fellow of the RSC. He received his PhD in Physical Chemistry in 2001. After that, he took a JSPS fellow in Japan and senior researcher in Imperial College London. Later, he joined the Department of Chemical Engineering at University College London to take a permanent faculty position. He currently leads a research team including postdoctoral researchers, academic visitors and research students with financial support from UK EPSRC, Leverhulme, Royal Society, Royal Academy of Engineering, Newton Fund, EU PF7, Qatar and so on. His research interests encompass structure-controlled nanomaterials synthesis by a flow system powered by microwave irradiation, solar H2 synthesis from water, CO2 conversion to a renewable fuel, methane conversion, ammonia synthesis and photocatalytic environmental purification. Such studies are undertaken in parallel with the mechanistic understanding and device optimisation to address the renewable energy supply and environmental purification. His research has led to ~110 journal papers with >7000 citations, 11 patents and many invited lectures in the international conference. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Advanced Chemical Engineering, an Associate Editor of Asia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, the guest Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Photoenergy, 2012 and Associate Editor of Chin J. Catalysis apart from sitting on the editorial board of other international journals.

Dr. Alvarez Cuenca is a Professor of Chemical Engineering and Director of the Water Technologies Laboratory at Ryerson University (Toronto, Canada). He holds a B.Eng (Chemical Engineering) from the Universidad Polytechnic de Madrid, and an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Physics and Chemical Engineering respectively from the University of Western Ontario (Canada). Manuel adds to his curriculum over 15 years of industrial experience with multinational corporations in the areas of fluidized bed reactors, bioreactor design, water treatment and clean power generation. In 2002, he founded Ecotechnos Inc., a company devoted to the design and construction of advanced bioreactors for the treatment of industrial wastewater including nitrogen and phosphorous removal. He is an active consultant for both, governments and the private sector in Canada, Spain and Iberoamerica in the areas of water treatment, and energy. His academic record spans over three decades with universities in Europe, Canada, and South America, including Ryerson University, U. of Western Ontario, U of Waterloo, U. of Guelph, U of Windsor, U.Politécnica de Madrid ( Spain), Universidad National de Colombia (Colombia), U de Cartagena de Indias (Colombia), Corporacion Universitaria de la Costa (Colombia). He holds five patents on the design of compact bioreactors, over fifty papers, one book on Pressurized Fluid Beds Combustion, and has chaired and participated in the organization of numerous international conferences and congresses. Dr. Cuenca has taught numerous courses and seminars on water/wastewater Treatment, Solid Waste Management, Design of Wastewater Treatment Plants and has won several awards as Academic Adviser in Plant Design Competitions with the Water Environment Federation (USA), and Water Environment Association of Ontario. Currently, he is involved in the design, construction and operation of a vertical bioreactor of 20,000L/day capacity in Pickering, ON, Canada. As of 2017, this vertical bioreactor is being installed and tested in Canada, Europe and South America.

Lidietta Giorno is serving as the Director of the Institute on Membrane Technology of the National Research Council of Italy, ITM-CNR since 2009. She has been involved in membrane science, engineering research and development some 25 years, being involved in research co-operations at European and international level. She awarded The International Awards "Guido Dorso" for Research in 2011, sponsored by the Italian Senate and the University of Naples Federico II. She awarded the Sapio Red Carpet Award in 2016 among the female scientists of highest scientific profile who are engaged for the development of the Country. She worked abroad in the USA at Sepracor Inc. 1992; in The Netherlands at ATO-DLO, 1994; in France, at The University of Compiegne 1997 and 2000. She is Visiting Porfessor at Tianjin University of Science and Technology, China, since 2008. Lidietta Giorno is co-author of several books, over 100 peer reviewed scientific papers in international journals, and co-editor of the Encyclopedia of Membranes, Springer, 2016. She is member of editorial board of scientific journals, member of the referee pool of scientific journals and research agencies, member of international committees and several scientific societies. She has served as member of the Board of Directors of the European Membrane House – EMH, (Belgium), born to continue the activity of the NanoMemPro Network of Excellence funded by the European Commission within the FP6. She has served on the European Membrane Society Council as the President of the EMS Council and the Editor of the EMS Membrane Newsletter. Dr. Ram Gupta joined Pittsburg State University as an Assistant Professor in 2013. Before joining to Pittsburg State University, he worked as an Assistant Research Professor at Missouri State University, Springfield, MO then as a Senior Research Scientist at North Carolina A&T State University, Greensboro, NC. Dr. Gupta’s research focuses on green energy production and storage using conducting polymers and composites, nanomaterials, optoelectronics and photovoltaics devices, organic-inorganic hetero-junctions for sensors, nanomagnetism, bio-based polymers, bio-compatible nanofibers for tissue regeneration, scaffold and antibacterial applications, bio-degradable metallic implants. Dr. Gupta published over 160 peer-reviewed journal articles, made over 150 national/international/regional presentations, chaired many sessions at national/international meetings, and received over 1 million dollars for research and educational activities from external agencies such as NSF, DoE, KINBRE. He is serving as Associate Editor and editorial board member for various journals.

Prof. Hussam Jouhara is an associate professor in Brunel University London. Since obtaining his PhD from Manchester University in 2004. He has unique expertise in working on applied heat exchangers and energy-related research activities with direct support from research councils and various UK and international industrial partners. He has extensive expertise in designing and manufacturing various types of heat exchangers, including heat pipes and heat pipe-based heat exchangers for low, medium and high temperature applications. His work in the field of heat pipe based heat exchangers resulted in novel designs for recouperators, steam generators & condensers and flat heat pipes. These have been implemented across various industries including, but not limited to: food, electronics thermal management and low to high industrial waste heat recovery and Energy from Waste. Over the last few years, he has successfully managed to achieve new designs for industrial waste heat recovery and many thermal systems that have enhanced the performance of various industrials processes in the UK, Europe and world-wide. His latest invention relates to a new Waste to Energy system that converts municipal waste to fuel that can be used to heat our homes. The new system was developed in collaboration with Manik Venture and Mission Resources and is called: Home Energy Recovery Unit (HERU). Details about this system can be found in: www.myheru.com. Throughout his academic and industrial career, he received over £6.5M in research funding from various UK/EU based research councils (RCUK & EU H2020) and from British and European industrial partners. Dr. Mu. Naushad is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry, College of Science, King Saud University (KSU), Saudi Arabia. He received his Ph.D Degree in Analytical chemistry, from A.M.U. Aligarh, India in 2007. His research interest includes nanocomposite materials and wastewater treatment. He has over 200 refereed publications with a Google Scholar H-Index of >34. He holds four US patents deriving from his research. He is the Editor/Editorial member of several reputed Journals like Scientific Report (Nature); Process Safety & Env. Protection (Elsevier) and J. Water Process Eng. (Elsevier). He is also the Associate Editor for Env. Chem. letters (Springer) and Nanaotech. Env. Eng. (Springer) Journals. He has been awarded by the Scientist of the year award-2015 from National Environmental Science Academy, Delhi, India and Almarai Award-2017, Saudi Arabia.

Takashi Yoshida received his Ph. D. in 1983 at the Graduate School of Engineering, Meiji University (Professor Shojiro Saito). Then, he worked at Nippon Dental University as a research associate (1983-1985) and moved to University of Tokyo as a research associate during 1985-1993 (Professor Toshiyuki Uryu). During 1988-1989, he had worked at York University (Canada) as a postdoctoral researcher. He became an associate professor at the Department of Polymer Science, Faculty of Science, Hokkaido University (1993-2001). Since 2001 he is a professor at the Department of Bio and Environmental Chemistry, Faculty of Engineering, Kitami Institute of Technology. His research interests are focus on the study of bio macromolecules and environmental science.
